Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Tru Shark is a shark encyclopedia and research app developed and operated by Tru-Resolve LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), registered in the United States. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at solutions@tru-resolve.com.

2. What Information We Collect

Creating a Tru Shark account is optional - the encyclopedia, tracker, research, and news content are all fully usable without one. We collect only the minimum information required to run the app:

• App preferences: Your notification schedule, unit preference (metric or imperial), and which shark fact cards you have already seen are stored locally on your device. This information is not transmitted to our servers.
• Account information (optional): If you create a Tru Shark account, we store your email address and a securely hashed password through our authentication provider, Supabase, solely to let you sign in and to hold your Tru Shark Premium subscription status. We never see or store your password in plain text.
• Feedback submissions (optional): If you use the in-app Send Feedback feature, we collect the message you write, the contact email you provide (if any), and up to three screenshots you choose to attach, so we can review and respond to your report.
• Purchase information: If you subscribe to Tru Shark Premium, the purchase is processed entirely through Google Play Billing. We receive an anonymous entitlement status through our payments provider, RevenueCat, tied to your account, not your payment details. We never see or store your card number. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.
• Device and diagnostic info: Basic, non-identifying device information (such as OS version and device model) may be used by our payments provider to process purchases correctly.
• In-app review prompt: Tru Shark uses the Google Play In-App Review API to invite you to rate the app. This happens entirely within Google Play's infrastructure; we do not receive or store your rating or review text.
• Advertising (free tier only): Google AdMob collects a device advertising identifier to serve and measure banner ads. Tru Shark Premium subscribers do not see ads and this collection does not apply to them. See Section 5 below for detail.

We do not collect your precise GPS location, contacts, camera or microphone data, or any data from other apps on your device.

3. How the App Uses the Internet

• Species content and images: The shark encyclopedia, research articles, and photos are loaded from our database (Supabase), hosted in the United States. These are read-only requests; no personal data is sent along with them.
• Range maps: The illustrative range map feature loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap. Like any map tile provider, OpenStreetMap's servers may log your IP address as part of standard web server operation. See OpenStreetMap's privacy policy for details.
• Sharing: If you use the in-app share button, your device's native share sheet is used. We do not track what or with whom you share.

4. Notifications

Tru Shark's daily fact card notifications are scheduled entirely on your device using your device's local notification system. No notification content or schedule is sent to or stored on our servers.

5. Advertising

Free-tier use of Tru Shark displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob collects device and advertising identifiers to select and measure ads, and this data is processed by Google under its own privacy policy, available at policies.google.com/privacy. Tru Shark Premium removes all advertising and this data collection stops for Premium subscribers. We do not otherwise share your data with ad networks beyond what AdMob itself collects to serve ads.

6. Children's Privacy

Tru Shark is not directed at children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at solutions@tru-resolve.com and we will address it promptly.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

If you created a Tru Shark account, you can delete it and its associated data at any time from Settings > Account > Delete Account in the app - this is instant and does not require contacting us. Full instructions, including an email-based option, are at our account deletion page. Locally stored preferences (notification schedule, units) can be cleared at any time by clearing the app's data in your device's Settings or by uninstalling the app.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of any personal data we hold. Account holders can exercise deletion rights directly in the app as described above. For any other request, email solutions@tru-resolve.com. We will respond within 30 days.

9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To submit a CCPA request, email solutions@tru-resolve.com with the subject line "CCPA Request."

10. International Users

Tru Shark is operated from the United States. If you are located outside the US, any information described in this policy will be processed in the United States.

11. Security

All data in transit between the app and our servers is encrypted (TLS 1.2+). No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable and appropriate precautions to protect the information described above.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Effective date" at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Material changes will be reflected in an updated app listing.
